The Crow's Aura" (Page 71)

The art gallery I was working with emailed me asking when I would have the images of the completed paintings available to show them so they could begin to create all their marketing materials for the exhibition. At that point I was close to putting the final touches on the first painting, which I felt was a very strong representation of were I was going with the entire collection. Three parallel lines would flow throughout the canvas to create a figure, then other lines would branch off from within and from without the central figure to create other forms and shapes.  The lines from the head extended upward to morph into a crow’s head. In the center, the figure held a luminous egg at his solar plexus. Dots, shapes and lines were then met with a painting technique that I learned from Bunnee – it made the paints variegate and mend with one another, the outcome was precious.

I figured I’d waste no time and take a high-resolution photo of the painting, transfer the file into my computer and create a marketing flyer myself. I had the entire layout in mind even before I took the photo.

All I needed was the title to the exhibition. I had a couple of thoughts but nothing came forward strong enough. I walked into the kitchen and asked Bunnee, “What do you think?” as I held the piece in front of her. “I love it!” she exclaimed after a couple of minutes of analyzing the piece. “What should I title the exhibition?” I asked

“LineAge as in lineage but emphasizing on the lines since your work is so linear for this collection and you are connecting with your ancestors,” she answered.

Bunnee has always amazed me from the very first day that I met her, but every time she seemed to capture the words from deep within me and express them to where I could digest them. “That is a great title,” I said, “thank you, I am speechless.”

She smiled and rubbed my back as we both stared into the painting. She then asked me, “what’s the title to this piece?”

“Ancestor in Crow Form,” I replied.
