"The Crow's Aura" (Page 7)

The black cloud lifted away, as it got higher in the sky, resembling a bird taking flight. We quickly realized we were no longer within the bushes of the hill. Instead, we were in a familiar place - my grandmother Antonia’s home in Juarez. Growing up, we rarely visited my grandmother, I truly never understood why. I always assumed it was because of the issues my father and mother had with each other, my mother chose to keep us away to avoid a spectacle like the one that almost occurred days earlier.

Josh and I walked into the house looking for my aunt Concha or somebody that we could talk to regarding our situation. “Lobin – Membrillo,” yelled my brother.

We walked through the hallways of the house and took a look inside each one of the rooms on the first floor. “Come on bro, lets check upstairs,” I said.

As we made our way to the spiral staircase at the end of the living room, we found a large hole in the wall. It served as a doorway. There were rows of bookcases filled with books, a table and one chair. On the table there was a candle that softly lit the space.

“I think this is my dad’s room,” I said. “I’ve been here once,” I continued.

“We need to get home,” I said as we both looked around the rows of books.

As we made our way back to the hole where we came in from, we looked at each other in amazement; it was now a doorway that led to many other doorways, hallways and staircases. The dim light from the candle intensified.

“Let’s go my children, I will show you the way out of here,” the light said. The light then took the shape and resemblance of my grandmother Antonia. She looked beautiful. Her long hair was the never-ending light. Her smile was soft and soothing like the sound of tree branches and leaves rustling with the wind.
