I laid on the floor. My body was completely sore and my head was pounding like a serious hangover. My sight was still catching up with my waking state.
“You almost died Gibran, what happened?” A female’s voice asked.
In that moment, I completely came out of it. I stood up and observed my surroundings.
“Aunt Raquel? Where’s Josh?” I asked nervously.
I found myself at my Aunt Raquel’s home in Juarez, inside the shower stall of the bathroom, naked and soaking wet.
“Rita and I showered you with cold water, we found you alone, laying on the sidewalk outside the door, you had a very high temperature – you could have died.” Were you huffing paint?” She asked.
“What? No, of course not,” I said as I looked in the mirror. My entire face was black with spray-paint.
“Look, Gibran, I can’t have you coming here like this, I’ve called your mother, she’s on her way,” she said.
“Can we please sit down, so I can tell you what happened,” I asked.
We made our way to the dining room. I placed a towel around my body and I drank plenty of water to quench my thirst.
My cousin Rita came into the dining room with a woman I knew only as Ramona, she walked behind my cousin.
“Ok son, tell us exactly what happened,” my aunt asked as she sat in front of me.
Rita and Ramona sat beside my aunt, one on each of her sides.
