Just got back from Santa Monica, California where I participated in a live-painting event curated by one of LA's well known and respected graffiti artists Man One. The event was in collaboration with the Britweek Festival in Santa Monica. I had the great opportunity to re-connect with my friends Razer and Easi who flew in for the event from Derry, North Ireland. And if that was not enough excitement for the day, I got to meet another awesome artist from the UK - Inkie. Although we spoke for less than a minute - he was really good vibe - much respect to you Inkie :)
Sticking to the theme of the event, "Music In Our Paint" I decided to paint a portrait of John Lennon. I grew up listening to the Beatles and John Lennon's music since I can remember, thanks to my father. As it is, every year that I visit my father in Guymon Oklahoma, we always sit down and listen to his cd collection. I always ask him to play John Lennon's "Beautiful Boy" from the Home Tapes Collection. Before you know it, we start our discussion about Lennon, the Beatles, life, books and our shared desire to travel together to explore other parts of the world.
Painting this piece, was very special to me - it linked me to two powerful and beautiful men, Lennon and my father Matias Lopez.
The portrait is now on display for two days only. I've attached the flyer for the "Music In Our Paint" group exhibition.
Thank you all that I met in Santa Monica while I painted. Thank you Man One, Crewest and the Britweek Festival Team for the awesome opportunity.

Without realizing it - I got so involved with the portrait of Lennon that I ended up creating an "Outside Studio" experience and totally forgot about "live-painting"
