I stood in the center of the driveway facing the entrance to the Ralph’s Market parking structure. On both my sides, there are parallel walls I was commissioned to paint.
The concept was entirely up to me. Although one thing was expressed, that the client liked the use of colors and bold geometric shapes within my work – other than that – I had complete creative freedom.
This sounds really exciting and fun, (which it is) yet, the other fact of the matter is that it is a challenge to create something that the client is going to love without really having a specific dialogue with the client in regards to the design. That right there – FUELS me – because I have the client’s complete trust. But it then also brings a question to myself – “Do I trust myself? “
I made my way to the wall on my right and stood on its narrow sidewalk to avoid getting hit by a passing car. I ran my fingers across a section of the smooth wall that was recently painted in a mid-tone grey. I noticed that there were areas within the paint job that were spotty.
Squinting my face with doubt I leaned in closer to the wall. Upon close observation, I realized it was the sun’s rays seeping through the trees’ leafy branches that served as a ceiling of sorts to the 2 walls.
“Nature – Light” I thought then I looked at the signage that is in front of the parking entrance it read “Ralphs – fresh fare” I continued to think “ Nurture – Body – Food “ Then, I stopped thinking – there was something deeper beginning to surface within me. It was a message – an answer to my unasked question,
“What would I want to share with the masses right now in this particular space and environment?”
“LOVING MYSELF”
That’s what came. That’s what I wrote and that’s what I painted on those 2 walls. I created a mirror that reflects love to those who enter or exit the parking structure. It is a hub within a hub to reenergize your entire being with self-love.
I’ve come to learn that if I love myself and the more I give to me, the more I am able to give to others. We sometimes expect our partners, our parents, our friends and so forth to love us in order for us to “feel” loved.
It is quite the opposite, if you love yourself – you then begin to love others unconditionally and it is so much that it then is reflected upon you. You then receive that goodness – that loving energy from others but it is not based on your expectation but on your own self-love.
You might ask, “Well Crow, what was your answer, do you trust yourself? Do you love yourself? Yes, I trust myself and I ABSOLUTELY love myself.
I transferred an abundance of love and light onto those two walls and surrounding space. I have so much that I can afford it. lol Don’t take my word for it – cruise by and get a healthy dose of reenergizing self-love.
Much love and good vibes to The Hub Hillcrest Market, Zack Nielsen, Gregg Sadowsky, Sergeant Spencer, Laura Borenstein and the rest of the Hub Team. Thank You for your trust, support and inviting me to participate in this awesome project. I appreciate it tremendously.
