I say “investing” instead of "spending" time with friends and family – because if we really do think about it, we want to add to each other. At least that’s what I’ve gathered from my own feelings, thoughts and those close to me.
A week ago, I sat with my close friend Eduardo Cervantes to catch up and share where we are currently in our lives. Although I have work deadlines, murals to paint, canvases to sell and house chores to complete to name a few - It felt good to connect and invest my full attention towards that moment with my friend. After a couple of hours of dialogue, dinner and a short walk around the streets of North Park – we said our goodbyes. Right before he left I realized something and I said, I miss our friendship – I’ve come to learn that true friendships are hard to find – at least for me they are. You’re my friend, I want to nurture and take care of that. He nodded in agreement. I grew in wealth at that very moment – my investment multiplied by abundance.
Two days ago, my 3-year-old daughter wanted to paint while I was trying to finish painting a canvas for an upcoming exhibit. I remembered the importance of “investing” so I grabbed her paints, brush and paint tray – I cut a piece of canvas from my roll and got her set up. We painted together. We harmonized with each stroke of the paintbrush. Then she looked up at me and said, “Dad, I love you.” She was now investing in me – she was adding to me. I was already feeling good, but my daughter gave me further inspiration and love – I grew in wealth at that very moment – my investment multiplied by abundance.
Today, I’m working on writing my 1 page a day for “The Crow’s Aura” – The cell phone vibrates letting me know I have a text message. I read it – its my sister, she wrote : Brother, call our mom. I figured, I’ll call her later and kept writing. I’m busy I said to myself, and I need to focus. No more than five minutes later the house phone rang. Irene, looked at me and said, its your dad. “I’ll call him later, I need to finish my work. I kept writing and in back of my mind I said – “investment”
Then, a facebook prompt – my father commented on my post and it read – Gibry, call your mom.
I stopped everything I was doing, mentally, spiritually and physically. “Ok, I’m not allowing for the good information to come in – I’m holding back from receiving the good stuff.” I thought to myself.
My family is trying to get a hold of me and I’m too busy for them. As the late Zig Ziglar would say – “I need a check up from the neck up”
I called my mother in that instant. All she wanted was to tell me that she loves my family and I. All she wanted was to remind me that I come from a strong family that loves me. I invested 3 minutes of my “I am too busy” time and she added so much inspiration and love. I grew in wealth at that very moment – my investment multiplied by abundance.
Thank you friends and family for being a part of my daily life. Thank you for the love, inspiration and strength you add to me. Thank You.
