GRATEFUL

Grateful

Grateful to the Spirit Realm

Grateful for my family

Grateful for my friends

Grateful for my health

Grateful to be Alive

As Day of the Dead approaches, Galaxy my 3-year-old daughter has been creating “spooky” decorations for the house and for my art studio. Everyday for the past two weeks, as I am about to leave my house and head to my art studio she will give me a goodbye kiss then hand me a small sculpture of a pumpkin that she painted and various drawings and crafts she’s produced. “These are for your studio, you need more decorations in there,” she says.

I leave my home with a glow around me. With the great feeling of joy and tremendous pride of being the father to such a beautiful being, my daughter Galaxy. She adds to my existence every second of the day and for that I am GRATEFUL.

It could be that when I met with Macedonio from Teatro Izcalli to discuss a mural painting for a Day of the Dead Event he’s spearheading, I saw that same glow on him. I maintained my focus on the matter at hand, the mural.

He gave me some information regarding the event and the reasons why he was producing it.  We also chatted about life and our families, community and so forth. At the end of our short but sweet conversation, we came to an agreement. I was on board to paint a portable - 20’ wide x 8’ high mural.

Within an hour, Macedonio and Norman brought me a roll of canvas and gesso. Later that night, he emailed me some photos that I could use as inspiration. I did not need to look through all of the photos. I saw the photo that spoke to me. It was a photo of Mace’s daughter Iyari with half her face painted with a Day of the Dead skull.

All the information and inspiration I needed was within that photo. This young woman has had a powerful family by her side, a father and mother that have provided her the gift of love and truth.

I knew that what I had seen earlier that day emit from Mace was the glow of his daughter. The glow emits his commitment to her as a father and his continuous oath to serve her as a guide.

In the days that followed, the rest of the information just continued to flow. With patience and tranquility I began to “weave” and layer the mural to life. The very first layer was raw expression. This chaotic and freeing approach allows me to narrow my focus and tune in to the proper frequency. Once I was in that “space” there was a clear message being channeled through, which I literally wrote using the entire real estate of the canvas. The message - the word was “GRATEFUL.”

It then clicked – I understood that the glow Macedonio emits is his commitment to not only his daughter Iyari but to everybody he comes across. He understands that there is an abundance of information coming to us from all realms including information from the spirit realm. And he shares it – he gives it to all who are seeking it.  This is true of his wife Alicia and his daughter Iyari too. It’s been a constant that I have experienced in my years of living in San Diego, CA.

Thank You Macedonio, Iyari and Alicia for all you do as a family for yourselves and for our communities. My family and I are Grateful for crossing paths with you all.
